The Monstrumologist is a critically acclaimed book series by Rick Yancey (author of Confessions of a Tax Collector, the Alfred Kropp series for young adults, and the adult series The Highly Effective Detective. Presented as a diary- found among the posessions of Will Henry, a senile man in a nursing home who claimed to be born in 1876- it is told in a thoroughly complex and intriguing manner. Will Henry, only twelve at the start of the books, is the apprentice of Dr. Pellinore Warthrop- a monstrumologist. Monstromology is the study of monsters, as the name suggests. Will Henry's life is strange, fascinating, and sometimes horrifying, and Will Henry seems doomed to answer one question that to this day plagues mankind: Are we the monsters we seek?

Extremely witty and irreverent, well-traveled and well-read, and keenly interested in the subjects of morality and monster-hunting, though not necessarily in that order. There seems to be nothing she will not do to destroy the pod of man-eaters, no law that she won’t break, no ethical dilemmas she will consider. In many ways, she is the dark mirror image of Will Henry’s master, Pellinore Warthrop, his personality, ironically, closer to that of the beasts she hunts than the people she hunts with. As she confesses, “In many ways, I admire [the Anthropophagi].”
She also seems to loves upsetting Dr Wartrop and has on more that one occasion egged the doctor into almost inflicting physical harm upon the blonde. In one case Wartrop actually slaps her, which doesn't seem to upset Sangster in any noticeable way.
